Disease reporting

Boston Healthcare providers and clinical laboratories are required to report all suspected or diagnosed cases of communicable diseases to the Boston Public Health Commission. 

Healthcare providers and clinical laboratories in Boston must report the following to the BPHC:

  • all suspected or diagnosed communicable disease cases
  • specimens that test positive for certain communicable diseases
  • animal bites 

Infectious disease research labs that work with specified high risk agents are required to report all illness, exposure or absenteeism among staff members.

Cases of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (disease or latent infection) should be reported directly to Massachusetts Department of Public Health here.

Completed reporting forms should be faxed to (617) 534-5905.
