Five creative things you can do for One Boston Day

Every year on One Boston Day (April 15), the City of Boston comes together to celebrate resiliency, unity, and kindness.

Due to COVID-19, this year we are asking Bostonians to stay in their homes instead of carrying out the acts of kindness in their communities that we typically see every year on this day. However, you can still celebrate One Boston Day with us from the comfort of your home! Here is a list of creative acts of kindness you can do. Feel free to share photos with us on social media by tagging us at @ArtsinBoston and using the hashtag #onebostonday.

  1. Design a heart and stick it in your window to show support for first responders and healthcare workers.
  2. Make a mask - and if you’re on a roll, make more and donate them! We have tutorials for different types of masks on our website.
  3. Make a chalk drawing thanking a first responder, leave a note or poem in your mailbox for your mail carrier, or design a card for a senior.
  4. Show your support: Venmo your favorite local artist or maker, or buy a gift card or membership to a local venue or community organization. We have a list of virtual events that you can donate to, and you can donate to the Boston Artist Relief Fund.
  5. Participate in One Boston Day Messages of Love. We’re looking for volunteers to create messages in the forms of songs, pep talks, dances, or anything else you can think of, and we’re looking for people to receive those messages. Participants and volunteers can sign up online.

If you’re looking for more ideas for acts of kindness you can do from home, check out this list and this act of kindness wheel created by the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics. Share all of these with us by emailing arts@boston.gov or tagging us on social media @ArtsinBoston.
