Information on face coverings for COVID-19
Effective May 29, 2021: The mask order in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has been rescinded.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has issued a new mask advisory. This advisory is consistent with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated guidance. Masks are still mandatory for all individuals on public and private transportation systems. These include:
- rideshares
- liveries and taxis
- ferries
- the MBTA and commuter rail, and
- transportation stations.
Masks are also required in healthcare facilities and in other settings hosting vulnerable populations, such as congregate care settings. Check the state's website for the latest information on mask requirements.
Face covering basics
Face coverings should:
- fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
- be secured with ties or ear loops
- include multiple layers of fabric, if it is a cloth covering, and
- allow for breathing without restriction.
