This workshop will explore what plastics are,  and what we are learning about their toxicity and effects on human health.  From there we will brainstorm what we can do to reduce our own risks and decrease our use of plastic.

Dr. Bridget Lee is an emergency physician at NeighborHealth in East Boston, where she runs a sustainability team.  She is also a member of Greater Boston Beyond Plastic and is on their speaker’s bureau, and helps to educate healthcare providers on how and why to reduce plastic in their practice.

Members of Boston's Zero Waste Team will also be there to share resources for reducing and managing waste in Boston.

After a multi-year design process, which included shared community meetings with Boston Planning & Development Agency's PLAN Charlestown, BTD's Sullivan Square + Rutherford Ave redesign efforts, and private development such as Hood Green, our project is shovel-ready! Features include an earthen berm to prevent flooding from sea level rise and storm events through 2070, renovated fields for Little League, softball, baseball, and soccer, a relocated street hockey rink, a new playground and splash pad, pathways and sports lighting, benches and drinking fountains, a paved riverwalk with gathering spaces for the community, and many new trees and planted areas. Generous funding participation comes from the Community Preservation Act, the Charlestown Community Impact Fund, and the City's capital budget.
