Age Strong Commission
For us, strength comes in many forms. Strength of community. Of cultures. Of experiences. Strength to embrace new chapters and opportunities. We believe that Bostonians who are 55+ make our City strong and vibrant.
Our mission is to enhance your life with meaningful programs, resources, and connections so we can live and age strong in Boston together.
We have many designations. As a Commission, Council on Aging, and Area Agency on Aging, we are not new to aging. We have been doing this for more than 50 years. Age with us.

Holistic Health Access Initiative
We believe in a holistic approach to overall health and wellbeing–that getting to medical appointments, accessing pharmacies, participating in wellness classes/programs at senior or community centers, and keeping up social connections–all contribute to being healthier and happier.
We also know that access to affordable, flexible transportation is often a challenge for Boston’s older residents. To help remove barriers, we’ve formed a collaborative initiative called the Holistic Health Access Initiative (HHAI). It’s a partnership between the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, Lyft, and the City of Boston.
2024 Age Strong Needs Assessment
Age Strong is conducting a needs assessment to learn more about the needs, concerns, and priorities of Boston’s older adults. Information will be gathered via surveys, focus groups, and listening sessions to learn more about the experiences of older adults and their caregivers. The goal is to create an Age Strong Plan which aims to make Boston inclusive and accessible to people of all ages. This is a valuable opportunity to let your voice be heard! We want to hear your ideas about how we can make Boston a better place to age.

Our Mission
We envision a city that embraces aging. Our mission is to enhance the lives of people 55+ with meaningful programs, resources, and connections so together we can live and age strong in Boston.
In addition to the values of our City Brand, we also emphasize a few other qualities in our work.
- Respect: We believe it is an honor to help older Bostonians, and we treat people with dignity.
- Inclusivity: Diversity in our city makes Boston better, and we pay special attention to how we can best meet the needs of all older residents.
- Patience: We take the time to listen with compassion and meet people where they are.
- Integrity: Credibility and trust is core to who we are and how we serve older Bostonians.
- Joy: Enjoying all that the City of Boston has to offer is important to us, so we promote fun at our events, in our conversations with residents, and on our teams.
