The new bridge will complement the Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge next door. The new bridge will be walkable, multi-modal, green, and sustainable. Everyone will be able to safely use the bridge. That includes pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

The design calls for:
  • wider sidewalks
  • gathering places
  • innovative accent lighting
  • protected bicycle facilities, and
  • smoother walking surfaces to support the Freedom Trail.
