Boston by Bike Rides

Enjoy Boston's neighborhoods by bike! Bring your own or take a free ride on Bluebikes.

The Boston Transportation Department is hosting a series of neighborhood bike rides this summer. Each ride will start and end at a Bluebikes station, so people who don’t have a bike can join in the fun. Helmets and a free Bluebikes trip will be provided to those who register in advance.

About the rides

SKILLS NEEDED

You should feel comfortable riding a bike and be ready to ride on-street with traffic. We will start with a quick overview of street skills, traffic laws, and a warm-up ride.

AGES

We welcome people of all ages to join, including families with children who are comfortable riding on streets with traffic. If you’re under 18, you will need a signed waiver from a parent or guardian. Please note that you must be at least 16 if you plan to ride Bluebikes.

ROUTES

Each route will take 30-45 minutes to ride at a comfortable pace. We will aim to share the specific route ahead of the ride.

HELMETS

Helmets are required for these rides. If you do not have a helmet, you can borrow one from us. Just select “I need a helmet” when registering. If you are going to take a free trip on Bluebikes, we will plan to bring a helmet for you.
