About the project

We are working with the local and regional community to design a more people-friendly corridor between Sullivan Square and City Square.

Our design goals for the Rutherford Avenue / Sullivan Square Design Project are:

  • An off-road community linear park with walking and biking paths between Sullivan and City Squares
  • Safer and new pedestrian crossings to MBTA stations and across Rutherford Avenue
  • Two general traffic lanes in each direction with additional turn lanes where necessary
  • Center Running Bus Lanes connecting Everett and Cambridge
  • Traffic engineering to limit cut-through traffic on Charlestown streets
  • Resident Parking Permits boundaries tightened to limit spillover on local streets
  • Coordination with improvements to the John J. Ryan Playground as well as new development projects
