North Washington Street Bridge
Public Works is designing a replacement for the bridge in Charlestown.
The new bridge will complement the Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge next door. The new bridge will be walkable, multi-modal, green, and sustainable. Everyone will be able to safely use the bridge. That includes pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.
The design calls for:- wider sidewalks
- gathering places
- innovative accent lighting
- protected bicycle facilities, and
- smoother walking surfaces to support the Freedom Trail.
