GND Zero Waste Employee Resource Group

The Green New Deal Zero Waste ERG (ZWERG) brings together city employees who are interested in living a greener, more sustainable, waste-free lifestyle.

The Zero Waste ERG will serve as a resource for anyone who is interested in living a more sustainable, waste-free lifestyle. The Zero Waste ERG will:

  • Build a culture for City workers that fosters innovation, inclusion, and mutual aid in the pursuit of reducing waste in our lives.
  • Create educational opportunities to learn about the City of Boston’s contribution to waste and waste reduction as an employer.
  • Provide employees opportunities and resources for growing into a more Zero Waste lifestyle such as waste reduction contests, park/street cleanups, repair clinics, clothing swaps, donation drives, gardening, and discussion groups.

Come join us! If you’d like to be involved, reach out to Pilar Ortiz at pilar.ortiz@boston.gov or Kate England at katherine.england@boston.gov.

  • Membership

Membership in the Zero Waste ERG is open to all active City of Boston employees, including quasi agencies such as the Boston Public Health Commission, the Boston Planning & Development Agency, and others.

Our Mission

Our mission as an employee resource group is to catalyze an internal culture change that will hopefully extend through City workers’ lives beyond the walls of City Hall. By doing this, we aim to help Boston become a leader in the Zero Waste movement, which will aid it in both achieving its Climate Action Plan goals along with its inherent goal that all residents are able to access life’s basic necessities.
