The OYEA Professional Development Series supports Boston's youth population by offering high quality professional educational opportunities to the individuals who serve them every day. This annual series is planned with Boston's youth-serving individuals in mind, offering access to trainings focused on youth work including best practices, mental health, first-aid, and much more.

Understanding Anxiety: Creating Supports for Youth Part 1 |
Boston Children’s Hospital Neighborhood Partnerships | Tobin Municipal Building | Anxiety is one of the most prevalent behavioral health challenges for children and adolescents today with 32% of youth ages 13-28 experiencing an anxiety disorder (NIH). In Part 1 of this workshop, the focus will be on sharing information about anxiety and identifying proactive strategies that can help to create supportive environments for young people experiencing it. This workshop will be focused on engaging in interactive activities focused on enhancing program routines and structures to help reduce stress inducing situations along with ideas for sharing information about anxiety with all staff. |

Developing Competitors Through Positive Coaching |
Positive Coaching Alliance | Tobin Municipal Building | The research and experiences of great coaches across the country is clear: Positive is Powerful. In this highly interactive workshop– attendees explore how to pursue sustained success for their athletes both on and off the field by developing competitors and life skills through sports. Each coach will leave the workshop as a PCA-certified Positive Coach, knowing how to establish a Positive Youth Sports Culture where athletes feel safe, seen, heard, and valued using the following principles:

Understanding Anxiety: Creating Supports for Youth Part 2 |
Boston Children’s Hospital Neighborhood Partnerships | Tobin Municipal Building | In Part 2 of this workshop, we will expand on information relating to how anxiety may present in youth and discuss responsive strategies to support young people in the moment. This will include strategies for having conversations with youth about anxiety as well as offer a framework to examine the relationship between anxiety and school/program avoidance. Practical strategies for supporting youth will be shared including a discussion on connecting with family and community supports for additional resources. |

Supporting Positive Athlete Behavior Through Responsive Coaching |
Positive Coaching Alliance | Bruce C. Bolling Building | Every coach has been there: athletes who are not able to follow directions, disruptions during practice, or a player who just can’t seem to focus. It’s frustrating and it’s easy to assume it's all about attitude or effort. But what if it’s not? What if misbehavior is a signal, not a choice? This workshop gives coaches the tools to respond with purpose, building connection and accountability while keeping practices productive and athletes growing. What coaches will gain:

Coaching with Empathy |
Positive Coaching Alliance | Bruce C. Bolling Bolling Building | Creating a positive, developmental youth sports environment for your young athletes starts with the coach. The highly interactive Coaching with Empathy workshop provides coaches with the tools to build meaningful, understanding relationships with and amongst their team - and unlock the many benefits that sports can provide. This research-based two-hour* workshop demonstrates how to seamlessly integrate empathy into everyday coaching by creating strong connections, listening to athletes, and understanding how kids’ experiences impact how they show up to your practices. Coaches will actively participate in the workshop, including small group discussions and will practice applying the tools to real team settings. Coaches will take away tangible tools and tips to create an empathetic environment with their team so all kids feel safe, seen, heard, and valued. In this workshop coaches will learn about:
