Walk for Hunger, Polish Constitution Day, Wake Up the Earth Day

The annual Walk for Hunger and 5K, as well as the Polish Constitution Day Festival, will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019. The Wake Up the Earth Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019.  These events will result in street closures and reduce on-street parking availability. People coming into the City to attend are encouraged not to drive their personal vehicles. Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, may be found at http://bluebikes.com and information on the MBTA may be found at www.mbta.com. For a faster return trip, the MBTA advises riders to purchase a round-trip rather than a one-way ticket. Walking is also a great way to move around Boston.

Walk for Hunger and 5K, Sunday, May 5^th

• Charles Street, Boylston and Beacon Streets, will be closed to traffic from 5 AM to approximately 12 Noon.
• Commonwealth Avenue outbound, Arlington Street to Massachusetts Avenue, will be closed to traffic from 6 AM to approximately 12 Noon.
• Beacon Street, at Chestnut Hill Avenue, Cleveland Circle, will be closed to traffic going toward the Reservoir from 8 AM to approximately 12 Noon.

An estimated 3,000 people will participate in the 5K with another 15,000 participating in the walk.  The walk is expected to conclude at 8 PM.

• The 5K will begin on Charles Street at the Boston Common at 7:30 AM.  Runners will proceed right onto Boylston Street, right onto Arlington Street, right onto Beacon Street, right onto Charles Street to complete a loop around the Public Garden, then proceed right onto Boylston Street, right onto Arlington Street, left onto Commonwealth Avenue westbound, left onto Gloucester Street, left onto Commonwealth Avenue eastbound, right onto Arlington Street, left onto Boylston Street, left onto Charles Street.
• The walk will depart from the Boston Common at 8:30 AM.  Walkers will proceed to Beacon Street, left onto Arlington Street, right onto Commonwealth Avenue, through Kenmore Square, continuing on Beacon Street into the Town of Brookline, re-enter the City of Boston on Beacon Street at Ary Road in Brighton, continuing on Beacon Street into the City of Newton.
• The return walk route will be on public sidewalks from the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts Avenue, left onto Commonwealth Avenue outbound, right onto Hereford Street, right onto Commonwealth Avenue, crossing Arlington Street to the Public Garden, through the Public Garden and returning to the Boston Common.

• Arlington Street, Public Garden side, Beacon Street to Boylston Street
• Beacon Street, Public Garden side, Charles Street to Arlington Street; and North side (opposite Boston Common side), from Spruce Street to Charles Street
• Beacon Street, Outbound side, from Commonwealth Avenue (Kenmore Square) to Park Drive (Audubon Circle)
• Boylston Street, Public Garden side, from Arlington Street to Charles Street
• Charles Street, Both sides, from Boylston Street to Beacon Street
• Commonwealth Avenue (outbound), from Hereford Street to #401 Commonwealth Avenue
• Beacon Street, Brighton, Reservoir side, from Chestnut Hill Avenue westerly until the existing Tow Zone No Stopping Anytime regulations.
• Cassidy Playground Parking Area, Both sides, Cassidy Playground parking area between Beacon Street and Chestnut Hill Avenue, on all parking meters.

• Beacon Street, Boston Common side, from Charles Street to opposite Walnut Street

Polish Constitution Day Festival, Sunday, May 5^th

Polish Constitution Day will be celebrated at the Polish American Citizens Club, 82 Boston Street, South Boston, from 11 AM to 6 PM.

• Traffic will be delayed briefly for a short procession to begin at 12:15 PM at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church on Fr. Songin Way, to Dorchester Avenue, left onto Fr. Songin Way, left on Boston Street, ending at Al Zwiercan Way.

“Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Sunday 9 AM to 6 PM” parking restrictions will be in effect for this event as follows.

• Al Zwiercan Way, both sides, Boston Street to end of street
• Boston Street, both sides, Rawson Street heading north to the I93overpass bridge

Wake Up the Earth Day, Saturday, May 4^th

Wake Up the Earth Day will be celebrated in Jamaica Plain.

• Boylston and New Minton Streets will be closed to traffic from Amory Street to Lamartine Street from 8 AM to 8 PM.
• A march will begin at 11:15 AM on Centre Street heading north, turn right on Lamartine Street, ending at the corner of Boylston and Amory Streets.
• A second march will begin at 11:45 AM on Washington Street, turn left onto Columbus Avenue, left onto Centre Street, turn right onto Lamartine Street, ending at the corner of Boylston and Amory Streets.
