Boston Preservation Month

Every May, Preservation Month promotes appreciation of the City's historic resources and celebrates the history and culture of people in Boston neighborhoods.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation created National Preservation Month in 1973. The month highlights historic preservation's importance through events that:

  • celebrate historic places
  • promote heritage tourism, and
  • show the social and economic benefits of historic preservation.

Celebrate People Saving Places this May by putting a spotlight on the people in your community who are doing the important work of saving places and building communities—in ways big and small—and inspiring others to do the same. Preservation Month is our opportunity to honor and elevate all local unsung heroes.

Every year BLC brings attention to history-related activities happening throughout the month of May. We look for Boston events that are free or low-cost. Some are led by BLC commissioners or our staff. Find our list of exhibits, walking tours, lectures, and more below. And let us know on social media about any activities we missed!
