Open Data to Open Knowledge
This initiative seeks to democratize access to the City’s datasets by partnering with the Boston Public Library to develop and deliver open data related curriculum to Boston area librarians.
Key to the development of a knowledgeable city, is a robust network of libraries and librarians who work everyday to provide citizens free and open access to knowledge resources. Within each of Boston’s neighborhoods a citizen can find a community library that provides a quiet space for reading and access to a librarian willing to assist with a general inquiry or a larger research agenda. Given the libraries longstanding expertise with information accessibility, the Department of Innovation and Technology is partnering with the Boston Public Library to re-imagine the City’s data as a valuable resource for public knowledge. Our broad goals for this initiative are:
- Inventory, catalog, and build out the City’s first ever comprehensive data catalog
- Re-develop Boston’s open data portal with an enhanced user interface to improve the user experience
- Develop and deliver open data related curriculum to Boston area librarians
