Teach the Joys of Biking
We're hiring team members to share their love of bicycling by teaching others to ride safely, confidently, and joyfully.
The Boston Transportation Department is hiring part-time staff to support its bike programs. You'll support multiple education and outreach initiatives, including our on-bike youth and adult workshops across the City.
What you'll do
You'll be a part of our Active Transportation team and most of your time will be spent outside or at community places across the City. We'll develop a schedule and work plan with you if you're hired. You can expect to:
- instruct bike-riding skills and basic mechanics to Bostonians ranging from elementary school students to older adults
- scout and lead group bike rides with us
- help take care of our fleet of 200+ bikes, including moving them to and from our shop, and
- engage with the public about biking and our street design projects.
We hope you'll have experience teaching youth and enjoy riding bicycles. It's important you are able to work with a diversity of people and on a team.
You'll be paid $19 to $21 per hour, based on your experience. You'll work 10 to 35 hours per week. Our bike programs are busiest between April and October, with daytime, evening, and weekend events. This is a part-time position, with a nine-month agreement. Benefits are not included.
