Jacob Cabral
Jacob is a geospatial data analyst on the Citywide Analytics team where he collaborates with members of other departments to build tools, analyze spatial datasets, and visualize results that inform decision-making.
Before he joined the City of Boston, Jacob worked as a GIS Analyst for AgriCapture, applying both quantitative and qualitative methods to support large-scale regenerative rice farming and grassland conservation projects across the southeastern US. While there, he designed web applications to optimize farmer enrollment in carbon credit projects and helped develop remote sensing protocols to monitor the adoption of management practices, such as reduced water use and tillage.
Prior to that, Jacob received his Masters in Natural Resources and the Environment from the University of Connecticut. His thesis focused on how social networks among the Connecticut forest management community affected information sharing and collaboration related to roadside vegetation management. He also holds a Bachelors in Geography with minors in GIS and Portuguese from Bridgewater State University (Go Bears!). Jacob loves watching UConn men's and women's basketball, reading, and learning how to bake even though he isn’t very good at it (yet).
