NDEAM Financial Empowerment Series

The Boston Disability Commission invites job-ready City of Boston residents with disabilities to learn about employment and financial empowerment during National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

This yearly webinar series is intended to help break down barriers for people with disabilities seeking employment, financial security, and economic mobility, including employment with the City of Boston. You are invited to attend the webinars and other events hosted by the Disability Commission during National Disability Employment Awareness Month each October.

Wednesday Webinars

2024 NDEAM events included 4 weekly webinars, and a job interview day the Disability Commission hosted in partnership with MassAbility, Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, Work Inc., and JVS. The 2024 webinars are available online at the Boston Disability Commission YouTube channel.

  • Pathways to Employment with the City of Boston

This webinar is an opportunity for people with disabilities to learn how to apply for City of Boston career opportunities.  Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from human resources representatives from multiple City of Boston agencies. The 90 minute webinar provides an opportunity for potential applicants to learn about City of Boston employment requirements and ask questions.

  • Financial Empowerment and Economic Mobility

This webinar is an opportunity for people with disabilities to learn about free financial wellness resources that the City of Boston has available for you and your family. Including help building credit, finding free banking options, and free tax preparation, come learn how we can help you on your financial journey. In addition, learn about disability specific savings accounts called ABLE accounts

  • Finding Affordable, Available, Accessible Housing

Finding housing can be incredibly difficult. This webinar will include information on accessible housing - what features are included in "accessible" or "ADA" housing units including mobility or sensory units. It will also include information about how to search for accessible and affordable housing and how housing "lotteries" work.

  • Employees - Know Your Rights

Workers in the City of Boston face many injustices: wage theft, discrimination, unsafe or unhealthy working conditions and more. Regardless of immigration status, workers have legal protections about which many are unaware.  When workers know their rights, they are able to exercise those rights.  In partnership with the City's Office of Labor Policy and Worker Protections, this webinar will give an overview of these legal protections with a focus on the rights of workers with disabilities. Speakers from the Massachusetts Office on Disability will provide information on how to make the decision to disclose disabilities, how to request reasonable accommodations,  and what to do if your rights are denied.
