Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS (HOPWA)
The Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) Program is the only federal program dedicated to the housing needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. The City of Boston administers HOPWA funding for Suffolk, Norfolk and Plymouth counties.
The City of Boston has received an annual HOPWA formula allocation from the U.S. Office of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) since the HOPWA program began in 1992. Under the HOPWA program, nonprofits provide housing and services to persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homelessness. The HOPWA program is coordinated by the Mayor's Office of Housing Supportive Housing Division.
