The District 7 ARTery

The District 7 ARTery is an arts corridor and community revitalization plan spanning from Massachusetts Ave. and Columbus Ave. to Grove Hall.

The ARTery route contains a high prevalence of diverse local business as well as numerous vacant lots, low foot traffic, and diminishing number of public spaces. The ARTery represents an opportunity to address the historic disinvestment in neighborhoods along the corridor by investing in and celebrating the businesses, spaces, and places that are central to people’s daily lives. The project will commission local artists to create murals on businesses along the corridor and to transform spaces through streetscape landscaping and planters, community signage, seating and sidewalk installations, and other types of art installations or activations.

The ARTery also emphasizes the importance of tying Black and Brown artists to place through long term and permanent projects that will sustain local businesses, reflect the local community, and stimulate growth in tourism for decades.

The ARTery project is ongoing. The next phase will focus on selecting project sites, commissioning artists, and engaging communities along the route. Project consultants will lead this phase of work, starting in summer 2024. Please check back for more updates soon!
