Back Bay Parking and Curb Access Changes

We made changes to parking and curb access in the Back Bay neighborhood. This included parking meters, resident permit parking, and 30 minute parking zones.

The Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay (NABB) submitted a request to remove 234 single space parking meters. NABB presented evidence of land use changes from commercial to residential. The City conducted a parking study. The study identified areas where parking demand was not aligned with the regulations. The City used this information to have community conversations and develop a plan.

In March 2024 the City removed 125 parking meters. Most of these parking spaces became Back Bay Resident Permit Parking (RPP). Other changes were 30 minute metered parking, metered parking until 8pm, and overnight RPP.

# of Meters Removed 125
# of New Back Bay Resident Permit Parking 123
# of New Back Bay Resident Permit Parking 6pm-8am 25
# of New 30 Minute Parking Meters 60
# of 2 Hour Parking Meters Extended to 8:00pm 78
