Our min-grants aim to activate social spaces within some of Boston's most historically marginalized micro-communities.

The Summer Activation Mini-Grant exists to empower:

  • Neighborhood Associations
  • Tenant Task Force Organizations, and
  • Grassroot Community-based organizations.

Our goal is to strategically activate social spaces within some of Boston's most historically marginalized micro-communities. These grants were formerly known "Save R Streets" grants.

How to Apply

  • Funding Source: FY24 City Operating Budget
  • Total Amount Available: $100,000.00
  • Grant Period: June 24, 2024 - September 1, 2024
  • Grant Range: Up to $7,000.00. Community Safety may award full funding, partial funding, or no funding. Applicants may request financial support of up to $7,000.00. Organizations will receive funding for the activations listed below:

Community Space Activations

Young Adult Space Activation(s)

  • This/These activation(s) will take place after work hours (between 3 -10 p.m. within predefined areas) prioritizing youth and young adults (i.e. SuccessLink Youth, 18-24 year olds)

Midnight Community Safety Walks

  • Led by community members with support from the city, these walks will take place from 10 p.m. - 12 a.m. within pre-defined areas.

Grant Requirements:
  • Applicant organizations must be a be a nonprofit 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization or have an official fiscal sponsor that is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization
  • Funds shall be used to activate community spaces where community violence has been historically prevalent and/or during times where violence is most likely to occur (*Please note that the venue selected must be one of the areas from the list below).
  • In addition, all events using grant funds must be free and accessible to the public.
  • Funds shall be used to activate community spaces where community violence has been historically prevalent. Check our list for specific locations.

Please note: To receive the funding, the Mayor's Neighborhood Liaison must be aware of the event. Visit the Office of Neighborhood Services website to find your Neighborhood Liaison.
