Nickey Nesbeth

Nickey Nesbeth is the Founder and Executive Director of The Boston Girls' Empowerment Network (BGEN), a citywide network established to create growth opportunities for women and girl serving organizations; and the Caribbean Youth Club that provides resettlement and social development services for immigrant and refugee youth in Boston.  Her work focuses on 4 primary areas: advocacy, community capacity building,  collaboration across ethnic-based organizations and grassroots leadership development. 

With over 20 years of experience in human service and education, Nickey has designed 12 programs to serve immigrants and refugees,  at-risk youth,  women and girls of color and directs 2 nonprofit organizations. She also trains service professionals around cultural diversity and gender specific issues, mentors 20  grassroots leaders of color, and collaborates with a wide range of ethnic-based organizations and municipal agencies to address critical community needs. 

Hailing from the Caribbean Island of Jamaica, Nickey is also an Afro-femme literary artist, storyteller and historian and focuses on the history and contributions of Afro-Caribbean women to healing, storytelling, commerce and indigenous religion.  It is this passion that causes her to seek more collaborations with BIPOC women and their allies to build safe and brave spaces for women from diverse background to connect and share their work and stories.
