Juliet Taylor

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Fellow 2021-2022

Juliet is a certified nursing assistant with a passion for respiratory therapy. Through the Immigrant Professionals Fellowship, Juliet was placed in the respiratory unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Originally from Ohafia, Nigeria, Juliet settled in Boston in 2008 and now lives in Mattapan. While she was studying to be a certified nursing assistant, her older sister tragically passed away due to a respiratory illness. This cemented Juliet’s commitment to help others get respiratory care.

“I want to touch every population that has a respiratory disorder. I want to touch their lives. I feel moved doing it, and I want to get to the pinnacle of respiratory therapy,” explained Juliet.

But after graduating as a nursing assistant, she struggled to find her dream position in a respiratory unit because she didn’t have the necessary experience. It was a frustrating realization.

Juliet said the Immigrant Professionals Fellowship was the opportunity she was waiting for. She read about it while applying for a food assistance program.

She said, “I don’t know if it was a coincidence or an accident. I’m not sure what I want to call it yet, but I said, ‘This is wonderful. This falls in line with me.'"

Juliet was placed in the respiratory unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She hopes this experience will lead to more opportunities in respiratory therapy.
