North Station to Seaport Multimodal Corridor

We're working to provide direct bus service and other multimodal enhancements between North Station, South Station, and the Seaport, servicing key destinations in the heart of Downtown Boston.

The North Station to Seaport corridor serves some of the largest, most historic neighborhoods in Boston. Passing through key economic hubs, the corridor provides access to critical transportation nodes. It also connects people to major employment centers. Enhancing the speed and reliability of this corridor is vital to:

  • the City's overall transit connectivity goals, and
  • the development of newer neighborhoods.

This project was proposed in GoBoston 2030, North Station Area Mobility Action Plan, and South Boston Waterfront Transit Action Plan.

On this page, you can stay updated on project progress and share your ideas and concerns. We want to hear your thoughts on transportation, public space, and safety. Whether your trips are made on foot, by bike, by car, or on a bus, we want to hear from you. Please join our email list to stay updated on meetings, progress reports, and presentations.

Community meeting

We held our first public meeting on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 100 Federal Street. We discussed the project and previewed the five initially identified route alternatives. A virtual meeting followed on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Take our post-meeting survey to give the team feedback on what we could do better!

Project Mission

The project seeks to provide high quality transit infrastructure from North Station to South Station.

We want to improve on the goals set forth by GoBoston 2030 and re-imagine this corridor for transit users, cyclists, pedestrians, and traffic.

The scope of this project stretches from North Station to the Reserve Channel. The infrastructure scope of this project will be from North Station to the Fort Point Channel. Infrastructure beyond the Fort Point Channel will have a separate project process.

Public Space

Public space generally refers to places that are open and accessible to all. Several examples include sidewalks, plazas, parks, playgrounds, and seating areas. Let us know how you feel about Downtown Boston's public spaces today, and what you would like to see in the future.

Safety

Your safety is important to us. We know some areas of the corridor can present safety challenges. But, we need your help to paint a deeper picture. How does this corridor feel as a pedestrian? Have you experienced a safety issue while waiting for the bus or cycling? Please share your experiences.
