City Council expresses gratitude for Boston teachers

During this week’s Council meeting, the Council recognized May 3 through May 7 as Teacher Appreciation Week in the City of Boston.

For over 30 years, the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has recognized the first week in May as Teacher Appreciation Week to honor the men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating children.

Boston Public Schools employs around 5,000 teachers to teach and support more than 54,000 students. More than 75% of the teaching workforce are women, one of only a handful of occupations in the United States dominated by women.

Teachers fill many roles as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators, and mentors, and are actively committed to helping children explore their abilities, strengths, and interests.

During this week’s Council meeting, the Council recognized May 3, 2021, through May 7, 2021, as Teacher Appreciation Week in the City of Boston. Despite disruptions to classroom learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers in Boston and beyond have continued to provide quality education for every child, and the Council expresses their gratitude to teachers for their dedication and devotion to their work.
