City Council recognizes National Girls and Women in Sports Day
During this week’s Council meeting, the Council adopted a resolution recognizing February 3, 2021, as National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) began in 1987 as a special day to recognize women’s sports. The theme this year is Lead Her Forward, to honor the many ways that sports push and empower girls and women to achieve excellence, gain confidence and strength, and realize their boundless potential.
On February 3, the Women’s Sports Foundation hosted its first-ever online NGWSD Girls Fest with Hall of Famers, Olympians, young athletes, and sports analysts as special guests.
NGWSD gives us a moment to celebrate how far we’ve come in the fight for gender equity and recognize athletes, champion athletes, coaches, administrators and lawmakers who are committed to providing equitable access to sports for all girls and women.
