Boston’s Health Equity in All Policies Initiative is a group of City departments and community-based organizations that are brought together by the Boston Public Health Commission.

What is BPHC’s Health Equity in All Policies (HEiAP) approach?

BPHC works with City departments to ensure that policymakers in Boston consider the potential impact of decisions on:

  • Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and
  •  Others who experience barriers to health

What is the goal of the HEiAP Initiative?

The goal of the initiative is to better equip City departments to address racial justice and health equity in their sectors. 

Achievements

BPHC gathered an internal working group led by BPHC’s Administration and Finance Office to develop an equitable procurement policy. The policy prioritizes certified underrepresented business enterprises. These include businesses owned by:

  • people of color
  • women
  • LGBTQ+
  • veterans, and
  • individuals with disabilities.
