Winners of Pumpkin Carving Contest announced!

The Boston Parks Department is excited to announce the winners of our 2020 Pumpkin Carving Contest.

In early October, the Parks Department asked Boston residents to get in the Halloween spirit by participating in our first ever, Pumpkin Carving Contest. Pumpkin carvers were asked to submit photos on the contest website, with three categories in mind:

  1. Most Creative
  2. Scariest
  3. Parks-themed

We received more than 40 original submissions this year across all of the different categories, making the final selection process extremely difficult for our judges. However, after much deliberation, we are excited to announce that the winners of the 2020 Pumpkins Carving Contest, and recipient of a free iPad provided by XFinity, are:

Most Creative Category:

Most Creative Pumpkin
South Boston's Claire Chang impressed judges with her detailed carving of a Death Star, a gargantuan space station armed with a pumpkin-destroying super laser.

Scariest Category:

Scary Roslindale pumpkin
Meet 12-year-old Carlos Y González, Roslindale's scariest pumpkin carver! Carlos impressed judges with his non-traditional use of the pumpkin stem and use of spooky pumpkin blood.

Parks-themed Category

Pumpking bridge
Recognize that bridge? Pumpkin-carver Tanya Delisle of Jamaica Plain was inspired by the Boston Public Garden's foot bridge. Judges were impressed by Tanya's carving skills, and her ability to capture this iconic bridge in pumpkin form. All we need now is a swan boat!

We want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s contest and we loved seeing residents of all ages get into the Halloween spirit in a fun and safe way.
