Be Connected: Stories from our employees at the McKay School
Each week, we will share updates, quotes and photos of the inspiring work that our employees are doing in service to our City.
This week’s story is from the Donald McKay K-8 School in East Boston.
Jordan Weymer (“Mr. Weymer”) has been conducting a read aloud every morning on the Donald McKay Facebook page. He interjects humor and fun with a weekly theme (and some truly fantastic hats), gives daily shout-outs, and recognizes students’ birthdays. These daily storytimes provide students and teachers at the McKay School a sense of normalcy and routine, and set a positive tone for the McKay community.
“Mr. Weymer’s humor and recognition of our students and faculty reminds all of us—especially the students—that we’re not alone,” said Kathleen Donnelly-Marquis, another teacher at the McKay School. “He deserves a huge shout out for being a true leader and role model through his actions.”
Mr. Weymer’s storytime is broadcast daily via Facebook live. Visit the Donald McKay K-8 School’s Facebook page to watch the videos and join in for his next reading!
It has been a difficult time for the Boston Public Schools community with the unique challenges presented this school year, but Mr. Weymer and all of our dedicated teachers are continuing to shape the leaders of tomorrow.
