Boston to launch free online wellness studio on National Fitness Day, May 2

The City of Boston is launching a free online wellness studio with its first-ever virtual Social Fitness Festival on National Fitness Day, May 2.

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced that the City of Boston's 5th Annual Social Fitness Festival, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, will now take place online this Saturday, May 2, 2020, in celebration of National Fitness Day.

Originally scheduled for September 12, Boston’s annual celebration of wellness typically draws thousands of participants together for a full day of dance, spin, sweat, stretch, and play. Instead this year, participants can register online at BostonSocialFitness.com for the first-ever virtual festival on May 2 including a dynamic series of free live at-home classes.

“Thanks to the incredible passion and energy of our local health and wellness studios and fitness instructors, we are not only Boston Strong, but we will come through this crisis even stronger,” said Mayor Walsh. “These small businesses help drive our economy, and now they are coming together to help us all stay fit and connected. Join us in keeping Boston moving!”

The virtual fitness hub at BostonSocialFitness.com will feature an ongoing weekly schedule of wellness sessions and content designed to keep Bostonians active and healthy, despite current COVID-19 related stay-at-home guidelines.

“Together, we are all doing our part to win this fight,” said Jeff Bellows, Vice President of Corporate Citizenship and Public Affairs for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. “Blue Cross is excited to continue to partner with Mayor Walsh and our entire fitness community in efforts to keep Boston safe and healthy during these challenging times.”

Fitness studios/instructors and wellness brands in the Greater Boston area that are interested in participating are invited to email sweat@bostonsocialfitness.com for more information.
