Black History Boston: Travis McCready

Today, we are proud to honor the contributions of Travis McCready, the change agent of health equity!

Travis McCready comes to us from Brooklyn, N.Y. He received his Bachelor's degree at Yale University and Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa. He began his career as a teacher in Brooklyn. In 2000, Travis began working at Harvard University as the Director of Community Affairs. He represented Harvard in Real Estate and Capital Planning with community residents, and local and state officials. He then began working for the Boston Foundation in 2001 as Chief of State and Corporate Secretary. After working as the COO and CFO at the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority and serving as the first Executive Director of the Kendall Square Association, he returned to the Boston Foundation in 2013 as the Vice President for Programs. In this role, he oversaw the grantmaking process, public policy work, and special initiatives, including StreetWorks, Success Boston, and CHAMPS

In October 2015, the Governor appointed Travis the President and CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, an agency working to advance the life sciences ecosystem in Massachusetts. While there, he oversaw the center's investment strategy, including programs and partnerships. Travis oversees the Life Sciences Discourses blog, which has been recognized by the Boston Globe. 

Honors and Accomplishments:
  • Serves on the boards of the Conservation Law Foundation, American Repertory Theater of Cambridge, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
  • Previously served on the Economic Development Planning Council under two governors,
  • Serves on the state’s Digital Health Advisory Council, Advanced Manufacturing Planning Committee, and STEM Education Planning Committee.
  • Named one of Boston’s 50 Most Powerful People by the Boston Business Journal (2017).
