Traffic Advisory for September 8 and 9, 2018

Open Newbury Street, Road to Wellness 5K/3K, Halfway to St. Patrick's Day 5K

Special events taking place this weekend will impact traffic and parking on streets in the City of Boston.  People coming into the City are encouraged not to drive their personal vehicles.  Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike-share service, may be found at http://bluebikes.com and information on the MBTA may be found at www.mbta.com.  Walking is also a great way to move around Boston.

Saturday, September 8

An anticipated 1,000 people will participate in the Dimock Center’s Road to Wellness 5K/3K taking place on streets in Roxbury.  The event will begin at 9 AM at #41 Dimock Street.  The routes are as follows.

  • 5K - Dimock Street, left onto Washington Street, left onto Marcella Street, right onto Centre Street, right onto Roxbury Street at John Elliot Square, right onto Bartlett Street, right onto Washington Street, left onto Dale Street, right onto Walnut Street, to Humboldt Avenue, right onto Martin Luther King Boulevard, left onto Walnut Street, right onto Cobden Street, right onto Washington Street, left onto Dimock Street finishing at #41.
  • 3K - Dimock Street, left onto Washington Street, left onto Dale Street, right onto Walnut Street, to Humboldt Avenue, right onto Martin Luther King Boulevard, left onto Walnut Street, right onto Cobden Street, right onto Washington Street, left onto Dimock Street finishing at #41.

The event is expected to be completed by 10:15 AM.  Traffic delays should be expected as runners and walkers make their way to the finish line.

Sunday, September 9

The following temporary traffic and parking restrictions will be in effect to support Open Newbury Street in the Back Bay.  The streets below will be closed to traffic from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM

  • Newbury Street, from Arlington Street to Massachusetts Avenue
  • Exeter Street, from Commonwealth Avenue to Newbury Street
  • Fairfield Street, from Boylston Street to Newbury Street
  • Gloucester Street, from Commonwealth Avenue to Newbury Street
  • Hereford Street, from Boylston Street to Newbury Street

“No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Sunday” (Enforcement will begin at 5 AM)

  • Newbury Street, both sides, from Arlington Street to Massachusetts Avenue
  • Berkeley Street, both sides, from Boylston Street to Commonwealth Avenue
  • Clarendon Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Boylston Street
  • Exeter Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Newbury Street
  • Fairfield Street, both sides, from Boylston Street to Newbury Street
  • Gloucester Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Newbury Street
  • Hereford Street, both sides, from Boylston Street to Newbury Street, excluding next to the fire station

An anticipated 500 people will participate in the Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day 5K sponsored by the Emerald Society of the Boston Police Department.  The race will begin at 11AM on Belgrade Avenue in Roslindale and proceed along the following route.

  • Belgrade Avenue, right onto Walworth Street, right onto South Street, to Walter Street, right onto Bussey Street, left onto South Street, to Arnold Arboretum, returning to Bussey Street, left onto Walter Street, left onto South Street, ending near Conway Street.

The event is expected to be completed by 12:15 PM.  Traffic delays should be expected as runners and walkers make their way to the finish line.
