Traffic Advisory for Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24, 2017

The Jimmy Fund Walk and Allston Brighton Parade are taking place, among other events.

The Jimmy Fund Walk, the Allston Brighton Parade, and other special events taking place on Saturday, September 23, and Sunday, September 24, will impact traffic and parking in the City of Boston.  Those attending the events are encouraged not to drive their personal vehicles.  Information on Hubway, the regional bike-share service, may be found at www.theHubway.com and information on the MBTA may be found at www.MBTA.com .  For a faster return trip, the MBTA advises riders to purchase a round-trip rather than a one-way ticket.  Walking is also a great way to travel around Boston.

Jimmy Fund Walk

The Annual Jimmy Fund Walk to benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute will take place on Sunday, September 24.  Dartmouth Street in the Back Bay, between Blagden and Boylston Streets, will be closed to traffic from 5 AM to 8 PM.  In addition, traffic delays should be expected along the following two routes that marchers will follow in the City of Boston.

  1. At approximately 1:30 PM, an estimated 8,000 marchers will enter the City of Boston on Commonwealth Avenue at Boston College, turn right onto Chestnut Hill Avenue, left onto Beacon Street, through the Town of Brookline, continue onto Beacon Street in Boston, to Kenmore Square, right onto Commonwealth avenue, right onto Hereford Street, left onto Boylston Street, ending at Copley Square.
  2. At 9:00 AM, a second Patient’s Walk with 3,500 participants will proceed from Longwood Avenue, across Brookline Avenue and the Riverway, right to Kent Street, to Beacon Street, and follow the Marathon route to Copley Square Park.

“Tow Zone Boston Police Special Event Sunday” parking restrictions will be in effect as follows.

  • Beacon Street, odd side, Munson Street to opposite #712 Beacon Street
  • Boylston Street, both sides, Dartmouth Street to Clarendon Street
  • Blagden Street, both sides, Dartmouth Street to Exeter Street
  • Brookline Avenue, even side, Deaconess Road toward Francis Street and including the loading zone and first four metered spaces
  • Clarendon Street, both sides, Boylston Street to Saint James Avenue
  • Trinity Place, both sides, Stuart Street to Saint James Avenue
  • Saint James Avenue, both sides, Berkeley Street to Dartmouth Street
  • Cleveland Circle, Chestnut Hill Avenue, park side of Cassidy Playground parking area

Allston Brighton Parade, Brian J. Honan 5K Run/Walk, Allston Village Street Fair

The Allston Brighton Parade and related events will take place on Sunday, September 24.  Brighton Avenue, Brighton, between Linden Street and #161 Brighton Avenue, will be closed to traffic from 12 Noon to 4 PM for the Allston Brighton Parade and the Brian J. Honan 5K Run/Walk.  Harvard Avenue, Allston, between Cambridge Street and Brighton Avenue, will be closed to traffic from 6 AM to 8 PM for the Allston Village Street Fair.

  • The Brian J. Honan 5K Run/Walk will begin at 12 PM, will proceed along the parade route, make a U turn at Fairbanks Street, return along the parade route and finish at Tavern in the Square.
  • The Allston Brighton Parade formation will take place on Brighton Avenue between Malvern Street and Harvard Avenue.  The parade will begin at 1 PM and will proceed along Brighton Avenue, to Union Square, to Cambridge Street, to Brighton Center, along Washington Street and into Oak Square.

“Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event” parking restrictions will be in effect as follows for these events.

  • Brighton Avenue, outbound roadway, Malvern Street to Harvard Avenue
  • Faneuil Street, park side, opposite Adair Street to opposite #365 Faneuil Street
  • Cambridge Street, both sides, Brighton Avenue to Washington Street
  • Washington Street, both sides, Cambridge Street to Oak Street
  • Harvard Avenue, both sides, Cambridge Street to Brighton Avenue
  • Harvard Terrace, both sides, Harvard Avenue to the dead end
  • Farrington Street, both sides, Harvard Avenue to Highgate Street
  • Gardner Street, both sides, Harvard Avenue to Linden Street

Other Events/Saturday, September 23

The Walk for Sickle Cell Disease will begin at 10 AM.  An estimated 250 marchers will proceed from the Shattuck Picnic Area in Franklin Park to Circuit Drive, right onto Blue Hill Avenue, right onto American Legion Highway, right onto Morton Street, entering Franklin Park at Morton Street at the pathway leading to Scarboro Pond, back to the Shattuck Picnic Area.  Traffic will be delayed briefly as marchers proceed along the route.

The Phantom Gourmet Food Festival will be held on Lansdowne Street.  Lansdowne Street, between Brookline Avenue and Ipswich Street, will be closed to traffic from 3 AM to 7:30 PM.

“Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Saturday” parking restrictions will be in effect as follows.

  • Ipswich Street, both sides, from Jillian’s Club to the alley adjacent to the Boston Arts Academy; north side, from Jillian’s to Bolylston Street at Hemenway Street.

“Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Saturday and Sunday” parking restrictions will be in effect as follows.

  • Lansdowne Street, both sides, from Brookline Avenue to Ipswich Street

Let’s Talk About Food will take place in Copley Square.  Dartmouth Street, between Blagden and Boylston Streets, will be closed to traffic from approximately 5 AM to 8 PM.

Boylston Street, Copley Square side, Dartmouth Street to opposite #551, including all muti-space metered parking spaces

Sonia’s 5K Run/Walk – Building on a Dream will be held in West Roxbury.  A children’s 100 yard dash will begin at 8:30 AM and the Run/Walk will start at 9 AM.  An estimated 250 participants will proceed from Emmonsdale Road, right onto Linnet Street, left onto Bellevue Street, right onto March Avenue, right onto Park Street, left onto Clement Avenue, continue onto the inner roadway of the West Roxbury Parkway, onto Bellevue Hill Road, right onto Bellevue Street, right onto Robin Street, left onto Park Street, right onto Saville Street, left onto Safford Street, left onto Anawan Street, left onto Park Street, right onto Oriole Street, left onto Wren Street, right onto Martin Street, right onto Emmonsdale Street, ending at St. George Church.  Minimal traffic disruptions are anticipated.

Other Events/Sunday, September 24

The Taste of Downtown Crossing will take place from Noon to 4 PM.  Avenue de Lafayette will be closed to traffic from approximately 4 AM to 8 PM.  “Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Sunday” parking restrictions will be in effect as follows.

  • Avenue de Lafayette, both sides, Chauncy Street to Washington Street
  • Harrison Avenue Extension, both sides, Avenue de Lafayette to Hayward Place

The WBLB Street Party will be held on Lansdowne Street on Sunday, September 24.  Lansdowne Street, between Brookline Avenue and Ipswich Street, will be closed to traffic from 6 AM to 11 PM.
