LinkedInsights: Kathleen Hart

In our new COB #LinkedInSights series, we introduce real City employees to provide a snapshot of who they are, what they do, and why they serve the City of Boston — so you can read, learn, connect, and grow your network one impactful public servant at a time.

Building a thoughtful and actionable professional network on LinkedIn can seem daunting. Who should you connect with and why? And how do you build a connection with the person behind the profile?

In this month’s edition of COB #LinkedInSights, we sit down with Kathleen Hart, Communications Manager in the Environment Department.

⭕ What is your job title?

Environment Department, Communications Manager

⭕ wHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CAREER PATH?

I am energized by the way environmental and climate action is constantly evolving to be more creative, bold, and revolutionary. Every individual is affected by climate change- and I love having the opportunity to exchange stories, share critical information, and guide people to moments of understanding.

⭕ HARDEST INTERVIEW QUESTION YOU HAVE EVER HAD?

"Where do you see yourself in 10 years?" I barely know what I'm having for dinner tonight.

⭕ What is YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING FOR THE CITY?

It's special to me that I'm able to work for the City I grew up in, learn the in's and out's of different policies and programs, and give back to Boston in my own way. Every day you're meeting new, inspiring people who care immensely about making Boston a great city to live, work, and play.

⭕ if you could have a superpower what would it be?

Teleportation. So many places to be, so little time!

⭕ favorite boston season and why?

Spring. There's nothing like the first warm day after a cold, snowy winter. More people on walks with their friends, school yards are louder, color comes back to the trees.

⭕ what harry potter house are you?

Ravenclaw! Ravenclaw and proud.

⭕ FUN FACT?

I usually forget everything cool that's ever happened in my life and end up showing them my double jointed elbow. My actual fun fact is that I lived and studied on a ship for four months, traveling to thirteen different countries!

⭕ what keeps you motivated at work?

A lavender latte from Recreo. But more importantly, my coworkers in the Environment Department. I'm lucky to be surrounded by brilliant, passionate people committed to innovative and impactful work in the face of a changing climate. Communicating with Boston residents about our work is a joy, because my department makes it easy to brag!

⭕ what ARE SOME THINGS YOU LIKE TO DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?

Thrifting, being outside, karaoke, attempting (usually failing) to make art, trying new restaurants, and catching up on movie recommendations.

⭕ FAVORITE MOVIE?

It's a tie between National Treasure and Shrek 2.
