February is Black History Month

This year, as with every year, we at the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) are committed to celebrating and continuing to educate about Black History, as well as share community events and educational links. Our hope is that you’ll take some time to reflect on diversity, and also the tragedies and triumphs African Americans have faced over the course of our history, and how it benefits our workplace, homes, communities, and world to stay educated and informed. One way to engage yourself with Black history is to browse and participate in local area activities. The City of Boston is hosting a wide variety of educational and celebratory events this month!  Listed below are links to several of these local area events and educational resources that celebrate Black History Month. 

• This list of children’s and young adult books provides education and perspective to both celebrate and inform black history month. 
• This page links to a famous freedom trail tour focusing specifically on celebrating African-American revolutionaries. 
• This exhibit at the Boston Children’s Museum highlights African American culture and life in the city of Boston, celebrating its diverse neighborhoods. 
• The National Center for African American Artists, open Tuesday through Saturday from 1 - 5 p.m., offers tours and galleries of art focusing on black culture.  Check the website to find out more about their current galleries.
• To celebrate black history month and remember the 400^th year anniversary of the beginning of the slave trade, the Berkeley College of music is presenting a concert described as a musical narrative, paying homage to the diverse cultures of Africa and the evolution of African American music over the past 400 years. 
• Here's a list of area activities, including game and trivia nights, community sports events, movie nights, African American career events, and more.

• Eventbrite aggregates further local events and celebrations of Black History Month in the Boston area, some paid, some free!
