City Council supporting hotel safe operations

In May, Governor Baker issued statewide safety standards for operators of lodgings, including frequent cleaning and disinfecting within all common areas, heavy transit areas and high touch surfaces of the lodging site.

A June 2020 memo titled “Public Health Protections for Re-Opening of Hospitality Establishments” by Doctor Carrie Redlich of the Yale School of Occupational and Environmental Medicine states, “Rooms rented to guests not in isolation or quarantine should be treated as other public spaces in the facility and cleaned and disinfected daily.”

With many bars, restaurants, and other meeting areas closed, Boston hotel workers have noticed an increase in guests congregating in guest rooms where they often invite other individuals and bring in materials, food, or alcohol from outside of the hotel.

This week, the Council adopted a resolution in support of hotel safe operations and support daily cleaning of guest rooms for the health, safety, and welfare of guests and staff during this unprecedented pandemic.
