City Council honors Evelyn Reyes, student member of Boston School Committee
This week, Councilor Essaibi-George recognized Evelyn Reyes of Roxbury, who has served as the Student Member of the Boston School Committee since September 2018.
Reyes is a graduating senior at the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science and will attend Columbia University in the fall.
She is an advocate for the rights of her peers and wholeheartedly believes that young people should have a say in the policies that impact their education and their lives.
“I’d like to take a moment to announce that Evelyn will be one of the panelists at the BSAC (Boston Student Advisory Council) Town Hall on June 25, 2020, at 4 p.m. She has a lot to share about her time on the School Committee and what it means to be a student voice there,” said Councilor Essaibi-George. Superintendent Brenda Cassellius regularly credits Reyes and BSAC for providing some of the best ideas on how to improve Boston Public Schools.
After serving on the Committee for two years, Reyes has stepped down to begin her college career. “On behalf of the whole City Council, we thank you for your service and commitment to our City. We will miss you and your voice on the Committee, but we know you will continue to be a force for good in the world,” said Councilor Essaibi-George.
The City Council sends its deepest gratitude to Ms. Evelyn Reyes for her steadfast service on the Boston School Committee and her incredible commitment to this City and its youth.
