Audrey Seraphin named new Spark Boston director

As SPARK Boston Director, Audrey will work to encourage and increase young Bostonians’ civic engagement.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced the appointment of Audrey Seraphin as the new SPARK Boston director. In this role, Audrey will lead the SPARK Council in finding new and innovative ways to engage the next generation of civic leaders. The goal of SPARK Boston is to prepare young people to plan for Boston’s future. 

“SPARK Boston plays an important role in engaging young Bostonians, and preparing them to be future leaders in our city,” said Mayor Walsh. “Congratulations to Audrey for her new role as the director of SPARK Boston. I look forward to working with you and the rest of the SPARK Council.”

SPARK Boston aims to encourage more of Boston's young people to be civically engaged. The organization's work is focused on connecting young adults from diverse backgrounds and strengthening their personal and professional networks in Boston, collaborating with young people to find innovative ways to address public concerns in the City, and engaging with residents between the ages of 20-35, a demographic that comprises over a third of the City's overall population.

Audrey Seraphin

Audrey Seraphin is a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, born in Allston and raised in Westford. Before accepting the director position for SPARK Boston, Audrey served as a member of the 2019-2020 SPARK Council, working on a wide variety events including a salary negotiation workshop, an Allston neighborhood social, and two Creative Economy Mingles with City Awake at Boston Athenaeum and the Central Library in Copley Square. 

"My time as a SPARK Council member taught me so much about civic engagement and working with the City and my fellow council members was a massive bright spot for me in a very tumultuous year,” said Audrey Seraphin. “I am excited to bring community to other young folks in Boston, especially those who see everything happening in 2020 and want to make a difference."

Audrey is passionate about advocacy for the U.S. Census and voter engagement, which she has been engaged with already. Audrey has an extensive background in the arts, and volunteers in the evenings as the community engagement director at The Front Porch Arts Collective, a Black theatre company dedicated to eradicating racial injustice in Boston. Audrey is a graduate of Emerson College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. in Theatre Studies & Arts Management. 

SPARK Boston has continued to engage its members during the COVID-19 pandemic by keeping them informed and as well as transforming it’s programs and events so that members can continue to participate in a safe and meaningful way.
