Age Strong Blog: National Night Out - Chinatown

National Night Out is an annual event to promote community unity and strengthen partnerships with our public safety personnel, bringing together residents, local non-profits, elected officials, and city agencies.

On an unusually cool summer day, seniors, families, and neighbors attended the Chinatown National Night Out event on August 6. The evening of fun, activities, resource gathering, and community building took place at the Tai Tung Village Courtyard, organized by the Chinatown/South Cove Neighborhood Council and Tai Tung Village. Age Strong staff were on site to speak with older adult residents about services and available benefits, and resources.

Children happily jumped in the bouncy house, families enjoyed cotton candy and popcorn, and Boston Police Department officers mingled with residents. Age Strong tabled, sharing materials and goodies and Commissioner Shea greeted older residents. Mayor Wu spoke about the importance of building relationships between Boston’s residents and our public safety departments.

It was great to be able to enjoy a reprieve from the heat, say hi to old friends, meet new ones, and most importantly, be in community.
