Archives and Records

Archives and Records is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but you need to make an appointment ahead of time. Please contact them at least one day before you want to make an appointment.

Archaeology PROGRAM

MARY C. BEAUDRY COMMUNITY ARCHAEOLOGY CENTER

The City’s archaeology facility is where we store, process, and study Boston’s archaeological collections.  Our exhibits are free and open to the public, but access to the Center’s collections, staff, and resources is by appointment only.

Exhibits: 1st floor lobby and hallway, Open: Weekdays 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Highlights of Boston Archaeology: Featuring highlights of the artifacts and creations excavated by archaeologists in Boston spanning thousands of years of Boston history.

The James Garrett Site 1639-1656: This series of tall cases exhibits artifacts from one of the oldest historical sites in Boston and one of the most complete 17th century archaeological sites found in the region. 

The Archaeology Center: Access by appointment

The Mary C. Beaudry Community Archaeology Center is open by appointment to all. We feature an extensive archaeological library, processing facilities, expert staff, and can provide access to any of our collections held in our archaeological repository. Email us at archaeology@boston.gov to set up an appointment. You are welcome to view our activities through our glass walls during open hours, but please be respectful of the City Archives reading room’s posted guidelines.

Directions

  1. Take the MBTA Orange line or #39 Bus Route to Forest Hills Station then take the #36 Bus Route to the Rivermoor Street and Industrial Park stop.
  2. Walk two blocks SW on Rivermoor St. #201 is the fourth building on the right.
  1. Follow the Riverway to the Jamaicaway to the Arborway for approximately 2.2 miles to the 2nd rotary following signs for South Dedham/Providence.
  2. At the 2nd rotary bear right onto Centre Street (do not take the sharp right).
  3. Drive for 1 mile passing the Faulkner Hospital on your right. Bear right onto VFW Parkway.
  4. Proceed approximately 3 miles on VFW Parkway and take a right on Charles Park Road (a little past Home Depot).
  5. Take a left onto Rivermoor Street. #201 is the fourth building on the right.
  1. Take Exit 15A "Towards Dedham/ RT-1A."
  2. Proceed straight along Boston Providence Highway to VFW Parkway for approximately 4 miles.
  3. After crossing intersection with Rt. 109, take left at next set of lights onto Charles Park Road.
  4. Take first left onto Rivermoor Street. #201 is the fourth building on the right.
