Boston Farmers Markets
With many locations across Boston, you can buy affordable, healthy, and fresh local produce at local farmers markets.
The Office of Food Justice helps connect Boston residents to Farmers Markets near them, making the markets more accessible to all. We do so through distributing coupon booklets and information on farmers markets and seasonal food distribution programs. Our work is supported by the following Federal and Statewide food security programs:
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or food stamps): A Federal program that provides a monthly benefit onto an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card that can be used to buy groceries at local stores and supermarkets. It is administered by the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) in Massachusetts.
- Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) A Massachusetts state program that puts money back on SNAP EBT cards when you use SNAP to buy healthy, local fruits and vegetables from HIP vendors. You automatically get HIP with your SNAP benefits, up to $80 a month.
Farmers Market Coupon Program
The Farmers Market Coupon Program has ended for the season. More information about the 2024 program will be posted in Spring 2025.
The Farmers Market Coupon Program aims to make fresh food accessible for households experiencing food insecurity, prioritizing those who do not qualify for other food resources, especially immigrant and refugee households.
The program runs from July to October. Coupon booklets of up to $25 in value are distributed monthly by community organizations and healthcare centers across Boston. Coupons can be used at any participating City of Boston farmers market to purchase fresh produce, dairy products, eggs, meats and seafood, dried goods, baked goods such as bread, and seeds or seedlings.
