Adaptive Swim Project
Making Waves Together: Swim Programs Designed for Every Ability!
Youth with autism have an increased risk of drowning that is 160 times higher than their neurotypical peers. This makes it especially important for aquatics providers to ensure that children with autism and their families have access to swim safely.
This spring, Boston Centers for Youth & Families invested in a rigorous training course offered by Swim Angelfish, an organization that offers specialized instruction for aquatics providers who want to learn how to teach swimmers with ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome and other types of emotional, physical or sensory challenges. Now, BCYF is proudly offering sensory friendly swim sessions for families to access free swim time at four pools in the BCYF system!
We invite you to join us and to reach out at swim@boston.gov if there are more things we could be doing to make your family feel more welcome at our pools.
