Boston By Bike

Ready to try biking in Boston? This guide will help you have fun and bike safely. You may want to do additional research on your own.

Why bike?

it's fast

Biking can be much more efficient than other modes of travel. You’re less likely to be stuck in by traffic jams, and you don’t have to search for parking.

It's affordable

After the initial upfront costs, bikes are relatively inexpensive to maintain. You don’t have to pay for gas, insurance, or parking.

It's Healthy

Just 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise can have a significant positive benefit on your health. You can easily get those 30 minutes in by biking to work, the grocery store, the mosque, or anywhere else you were already going.

It's FUN

The most important reason to ride a bike is because it’s fun! Biking also helps reduce stress, so you’ll enjoy other parts of life too.

QUICK START

There’s a lot of information in this guide, but all you really need to get going is a bike. Grab your own, borrow a friend’s, or try out Boston’s bike share. Build your confidence by riding on paths and less-crowded residential streets. Branch out as you get more comfortable. Ride when you want to. You don’t have to use a bike for every trip you take, or even everyday.
