Children's Council
It is the shared work of every City department to provide for the care and success of Boston’s young people.
Boston's Children’s Council is comprised of representatives from multiple City of Boston departments. We work together on behalf of Boston’s 163,700 children to make our city a home for everyone. Home is where your basic needs are met- where you can be healthy, happy, and safe. Home is also where your dreams can grow and where you are with the people you love.
The Children’s Council Agenda
The Council develops our agenda in the following ways:
- Create systems for better collaboration of city departments for children, youth and families
- Build City infrastructure to connect children, youth and families to programs and services
- Lead a small set of cross-cabinet initiatives aligned with the Mayor’s agenda
Cross-Cabinet Initiatives
Expanding Connect, Learn, Explore
Expanding the Mayor's commitment that every child learn to bike, swim, and is connected to sports, arts, and gardening in their community
Support Neighborhoods as Units of Change
With external partners, create a pilot place-based initiative in Mattapan to support local programs for youth and their families
Prepare for Climate Change's Impact on Children and Families
Improve response and resources in heat emergencies for families and children, who are uniquely vulnerable to heat
