Roxbury

We’re bringing this historic neighborhood into the 21st century.

This former farming community is home to the Shirley Eustis House. It’s the nation’s only remaining country house that a British Royal Colonial Governor built. Today, Roxbury is the heart of Black culture in Boston.

Neighborhood features

The area is now in the midst of a renaissance. New businesses and housing initiatives are renewing Roxbury’s main districts, including:

  • Dudley Square
  • Crosstown, and
  • Grove Hall.

Blue Hill went from being a street full of vacant lots to a bustling business district. It was one of former Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s proudest achievements.

The Roxbury Center for the Arts, Culture, and Trade opened in 2005. It celebrates the culture of the community through visual and performing arts.
