About the district
Founded in 1977, the Fenway Alliance is a membership service and advocacy organization. The groups is dedicated to the prosperity and growth of the Fenway Cultural District. The Fenway Alliance is made up of 21 major cultural, arts, and academic institutions.
Between 1997 and 2011, these institutions spent over $1 billion dollars on capital projects in Boston. With a combined budget of over $1.5 billion, they bring more than 3.9 million visitors to the district each year. They also employ more than 20,000 people and educate and support more than 50,000 students.
The district was established in 1998. It is made up of the area surrounded by Huntington Avenue, Massachusetts Avenue, and the Back Bay Fens. Some notable institutions in the district include:
- Museum of Fine Arts
- Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
- Boston Symphony Orchestra
- Berklee College of Music
- Wheelock Family Theater, and
- Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity.
The district's mission is to provide an environment that merges both historical and contemporary elements. The district attempts to create a welcoming and creative experience for residents and visitors. The goal is to promote the cultural district through:
- the promotion of culture and arts
- marketing, and
- making the district more livable.
