Mayor's Poetry Program Reading

Join us in celebrating National Poetry Month with the annual Mayor's Poetry Program reading!

April 21, 2023
2023-04-21T12:00:00 - 2023-04-21T13:30:00

The Mayor's Poetry Program is an annual program in which Boston residents are invited to submit poems to be displayed throughout City Hall and in an online gallery for one year. The theme for 2023, selected by Poet Laureate Porsha Olayiwola, was "Love".

Fifteen poems were selected to be displayed throughout City Hall for a year. Selected poets and honorable mentions will be participating in a reading on Friday, April 21, from 12 - 1:30 p.m. on City Hall Plaza (the Speaker's Corner in front of the main entrance). In the event of inclement weather, the reading will be moved indoors to room 801 at Boston City Hall.

Family-Friendly Wetlands Walk

Cap off school vacation week by spending some time outdoors and learning more about wetlands ecology, the history of neighborhood advocacy, and the ecological restoration work now underway. Boston Urban Wilds staff will lead the way. Meet at the Coniston Road entrance (25 Coniston Road, Roslindale, MA 02131).

April 21, 2023
2023-04-21T10:30:00 - 2023-04-21T11:30:00

The Urban Wilds Program and neighbors of Roslindale Wetlands welcome families and individuals to join us on a fun and educational walk through the wetlands. We will talk about the importance of wetlands in Boston, how residents worked with the City to protect Roslindale Wetlands, and how we can work together to keep places like this healthy. The walk will last up to one hour and participants should be ready for the possibility of a few muddy and uneven sections of trail.

Join the Urban Wilds Program and Mass Audubon staff in the City Nature Challenge, an international competition among cities to document the most wildlife. The Urban Wilds Program and Mass Audubon need your help! Come join us in “an international effort for people to find and document plants and wildlife in cities across the globe. It’s a competition where cities are in a friendly contest with each other to see who can make the most observations of nature, who can find the most species, and who can engage the most people” (www.citynaturechallenge.org). We will focus on exploring the plants and animals of this wetland and woodland. The species information we find will be helpful in guiding additional restoration efforts at this Urban Wild.

No experience or expertise necessary! Come with sturdy footwear, the iNaturalist app downloaded, and your curiosity.
