BERDO Review Board Info and Q&A Session

All are invited to join an info and Q&A session focused on the BERDO Review Board.

The session will take place on Zoom on March 2, 2023 from 6:00 to 700 p.m. EST. Please register for the event here.

At this meeting, the BERDO team will provide an overview of the BERDO Review Board, including the requirements and responsibilities of future Review Board members. We will also devote time to answer questions from the public on any topics relating to the Review Board and the Review Board member nomination process that is currently open. 

We encourage any individual and organization interested in nominating a Review Board member to attend this event. A recording will be shared on boston.gov/berdo following the session.

Hike Boston - Ranger Led Emerald Necklace Hike

Hike Boston is a week-day day-time hiking series where we invite you to join us for a walk in one of Boston's parks or urban wilds.

Boston Park Rangers, Urban Wilds staff, or Parks employees will provide formal and informal discussions or tours during the hikes. Some hikes may be more focused on taking a walk in the park, while others may be more informational.

Hikes will explore different wilderness or park areas of Boston. Hikes will take place primarily on unpaved paths. Programs will last about one hour and length may vary.

Ranger Evans and Ranger Smith will be leading a walking tour of a section of the Emerald Necklace starting at the JP boat house and making our way to the Back Bay Fens. This tour will explore the evolution of the Emerald  Necklace from a patch work of farm land, indigenous lands and swamps to the parks we see and use today. We'll also be highlighting the local flora and fauna in these parks as well. This tour will meet at the Boat House in Jamaica Pond at 10am and will end in the Back Bay Fens spanning 3.5 - 4.5 hours in length (10am-2pm). It's recommended that participants bring comfortable shoes and lots of water. The rain date for this event will be the following Wednesday 7/3/24 with the same start/end location and times.

Description: Tour the overlook and ruins in Franklin Park. The tour will highlight historical features of Franklin Park which will allow the audience to leave with a better historical understanding of what remains. Tours vary in length from 1 mile up to 3-4 miles. Depending on the length, they can last from 30 minutes up to 1.5 hours. Starting and ending location will be behind the zoo along Pierpont Rd near the softball field.  Restrooms and drinking water may or may not be available, come prepared with whatever you will need for the walk or hike.

Description: Join a Boston Park Ranger for a short walk, interpretive talk, or day hike and learn more about Boston's park system. Guided hikes and walks vary in length from .5 miles up to 4 miles. Depending on the length, they can last from 30 minutes up to 3 hours. All guided hikes and walks will begin at a predetermined location in the area in which they are offered. Restrooms and drinking water may or may not be available, come prepared with whatever you will need for the tour.

Topics and routes will vary depending on the location. Rangers will provide information on the natural and cultural history of the park throughout the walk or hike. These tours are offered in many areas of the city, including; Franklin Park, Jamaica Pond and Olmsted Park, The Back Bay Fens, and the Boston Common.
