Kyla Barbosa
Kyla Barbosa is honored to serve as the Mayor’s Youth Council Fellow. Born and raised in Boston, she's always felt deeply connected to this vibrant city. Though Kyla's home has always been in Boston, her educational journey began with the METCO program in Newton Public Schools. From kindergarten to high school, Newton became her second home. It’s where Kyla learned to read and write, made lifelong friends, and had experiences that shaped who she is today.
After high school, Kyla went on to attend St. John's University, where she graduated in May of 2023 with a Bachelor's degree in Communications, focusing on management. Throughout her education and career, Kyla had the privilege of working with incredible organizations that have nurtured her passion for youth development and mentorship. These experiences have helped her grow both professionally and personally, reinforcing her commitment to empowering young people.
As Kyla steps into this fellowship, she is excited about the opportunity to engage with Boston's youth and to create meaningful spaces for them to thrive. She aims to use her platform to uplift and support the next generation of leaders, ensuring that their voices are heard and their perspectives valued. Kyla is looking forward to working alongside fellow youth advocates and City leaders to address the issues that matter most to our communities, including education, youth empowerment, and access to opportunities.
Through this fellowship, Kyla hopes to continue developing her leadership skills, build stronger connections with Boston’s youth, and contribute to positive change in our city. She's driven by the belief that when young people are given the tools, resources, and guidance to succeed, they can achieve extraordinary things.
Outside of her professional life, Kyla enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.
