Boston MBTA Shutdowns 2025

Upcoming Diversions and Shutdowns

February 22 - 23

Green Line B, C, D, and E rail service will be suspended between North Station & Babcock St (B), Kenmore (C+D), & Heath St (E) during the weekend of February 22-23.

  • Free and accessible shuttle buses will make all stops between Babcock & Copley/Back Bay, and Kenmore & Copley/Back Bay.
  • Accessible van service will be available for Green Line stops between Copley/Back Bay and North Station

Riders are strongly encouraged to use buses between Babcock, Kenmore, and Heath St (Route 39), to Copley/Back Bay. Riders should use the Orange Line between Back Bay and North Station.

The Route 39 bus will be free to ride between Heath St and Copley/Back Bay. This route runs parallel to the Green Line E Branch. Worcester Commuter Rail Line will be free to ride between Lansdown, Back Bay, and South Station.

This service change is in place to address outstanding maintenance needs.

January 31 - February 2 AND February 14 - 17.

Orange Line service will be suspended between Oak Grove and North Station during the following dates: 

  • Beginning at approximately 8:30 PM on Friday, January 31, and continuing through the entire weekend of February 1 – 2.
  • Beginning at approximately 8:30 PM on Friday, February 14, and continuing through the entire weekend of February 15 - 17 (including President's Day).

Free and accessible shuttle buses will make all stops between Oak Grove and North Station. Express shuttle buses will stop at Oak Grove, Malden Center, and North Station. 

The Haverhill Commuter Rail Line will be fare-free on Monday, February 17.

This service change is in place to address outstanding maintenance needs.

February 8 - 9 and February 22 - 23

Red Line service will be suspended between JFK/UMass and Braintree during the weekends of February 8 - 9 and February 22 - 23.

  • Free and accessible shuttle buses will make all stops between JFK/UMass and Braintree. 
  • Riders are strongly encouraged to use the Middleborough, Kington, and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines for fare-free service between Braintree, Quincy Center, JFK/UMass, and South Station. Commuter Rail schedules are available on mbta.com.  Travelling between Braintree and South Station on the Commuter Rail is about 24 minutes. Riders should note that regular Commuter Rail fares will be collected for travel beyond Braintree.  

This service change is in place to accomplish signal upgrade work on the Red Line.

February 14 - 17

Commuter Rail service will be suspended between Maffa Way/Mystic and North Station during the weekend of February 14 - 17 (including President's Day).
